Grafton boys bank on Starr in restocking for pool wars

“He’s filling in a lot of different roles. I’m sure his forte will be sprints this year,” Minz said.
Also back are Trevor Bodart and Gaven Depies, who went to state in the breaststroke last year, along with Ben Niswonger, who competed at state in diving.
Minz said he doesn’t expect to contend for the North Shore Conference title with such a young team, instead expecting to finish in the middle of the pack.
At the Elk Invitational at Elkhorn last Saturday, the Hawks took sixth place with 204 points. Greenfield/Greendale/Pius won the team title with 485 points, and second-place Elkhorn had 450.
Starr won the 200-meter individual medley in 2 minutes, 18.6 seconds and was third in the 400 freestyle in 4:27.04.
The 200 medley relay of Gaven Depies, Starr, Fischer and Trevor Bodart took third in 2:01.14.
The 400 freestyle relay of Fischer, O’Connor, Depies and Starr took fifth in 4:06.33.
Depies was sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.93.
This week, Grafton was scheduled to swim at Whitefish Bay on Wednesday. The Hawks will host the conference relays on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Diving starts at 4 p.m. and swimming at 6 p.m.
It will be the Hawks’ final meet before winter break.
