The good and bad impact of the state budget on the Town of Belgium

Belgium Town Chairman Tom Winker likes one part of the recently approved state budget and dislikes another.

“We did get a nice increase on shared revenue,” he said at Monday’s Town Board meeting.

Belgium usually receives nearly $20,000. The latest increase will be $54,500, for a total allotment of about $74,000.

“It’s our money. They just remembered to send it back,” he said of state government.

The bad news was on road funding. The town usually receives an increase through the General Transportation Aids program.
