Giro d’Grafton returns this weekend with high-speed fun

Ozaukee Press Staff

Hundreds of bicyclists will speed along streets in downtown Grafton this weekend as the Tour of America’s Dairyland races return to the community.

The 14th annual Giro d’Grafton, which will be held Saturday, June 19, is the fourth stop on the 11-day race tour.

Last year’s event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Races in Grafton will feature men’s and women’s competition in professional and amateur divisions.

Events will also include a variety of family activities.

Bike races will kick off at noon, beginning with boys and girls in ninth through 12th grades, and continue to 9 p.m. with a twilight race.

Circuit riders will be awarded points for their finishes in the races, with their scores combined with those earned in other races in the series.

The bicyclists also compete for thousands of dollars in prizes.

Spectators typically gather around the start and finish lines — the intersection of Beech Street and Wisconsin Avenue — to watch the final sprints.

There will be vendors and local shops that will feature specials.

Live music is tentatively set for the event.
