Froedtert and Medical College plan clinic in Port

Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin are planning to open a clinic in Port Washington.

The clinic would be across from the former Aurora medical clinic on Highway 33 on the city’s far west side and just west of Aurora’s current clinic at the corner of highways LL and 33. 

The Port Plan Commission on Nov. 18 approved plans for the clinic at 195 Sweetwater Blvd., next to Anytime Fitness on the west end of a strip mall at the entrance to the Hidden Hills subdivision.

The 3,800-square-foot primary-care clinic will take up much of the west end of the building, which hasn’t been fully occupied since it was built in 2007, Bob Harris, the city’s director of planning and development, said.

The clinic will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Harris said, with as many as 14 staff members working at any time.

Froedtert does not expect to have any more than four physicians or physician’s assistants on site on any one day, he added.

The clinic will add a handicapped ramp at its entrance and restripe the parking lot to accommodate the ramp, but otherwise there would be few exterior changes.

Mayor Ted Neitzke, chairman of the commission, asked if there would be landscaping added to the site.

“It’s a big asphalt lot,” he said. “This is at the entrance to town.”

There is a significant amount of green space between the building and Highway 33, Harris noted.

Froedtert and the Medical College announced in October that 12 primary care providers who had been working in the Sheboygan area would join its network in November and practice in a number of locations, including Port Washington and Mequon. 

It also noted that the physicians would return to the Plymouth and Sheboygan areas in 2023.
