February activities set at Niederkorn Library in Port

February events at the W.J. Niederkorn Library in Port Washington cover a range of topics, from book talks to a home-selling seminar.

A “Blind Date With a Book” program for teenagers will be held from Feb. 8 to 12.

Throughout the week, students in grades seven to 12 can stop at the teen area of the library to pick out a paper-wrapped book based on a brief description attached to the volume.

A virtual home selling seminar with Keller Williams real estate agent Shannon Schultz will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11.

Schultz will discuss what information people need to gather and improvements they should make before listing their home. She will also discuss what the market has been like during the pandemic.

“We Love Graphic Novels!” will be a Facebook event at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 11.

Jamie Mercer, head of children’s services at the library, will explain the value of this format, highlight the graphic novels in the children’s collection and present activities to create a graphic novel cover and comic strip.

The event will premiere online on the W.J. Niederkorn Library Facebook page.

“Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston is the topic for the 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, library book talk on Zoom.

Copies of the book may be checked out at the library’s front desk.

A countdown to Mars online presentation will be given by NASA Solar System Ambassador Joyce Jentges at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The Zoom talk is scheduled only two days before the Mars Rover Perseverance is scheduled to touch down on Mars.        Jentges will talk about the Perseverance and its mission and offer tips on how to celebrate its landing.

An antiracism book talk will be held online at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22.

The Zoom talk is a follow-up to one held in January. The discussion will center on the books “Stamped from the Beginning” by Ibram X. Kendi and the young adult remix “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You” by Kendi and Jason Reynolds.

The program is part of the Ozaukee County Talks about Race series.
