Eugene J. Kirst
Eugene J. Kirst, who was a village trustee and firefighter during the 45 years he lived in Fredonia, died Monday, March 19, at Meadow View Manor in Sheboygan.
Mr. Kirst, who lived most recently in Plymouth, was 84.
While living in Fredonia, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, now Divine Savior, and worked as a service technician for Steffen’s Plumbing & Heating.
Mr. Kirst was born in Fredonia on Feb. 2, 1934, the son of Matthew and Veronica Gasper Kirst.
On June 18, 1955, he married Theresa Thomas of Random Lake.
When he was in his mid-40s, Mr. Kirst and his wife moved to Fremont, where he fulfilled his dream of owning and operating Gene’s Resort.
After retiring from the resort, Mr. Kirst and his wife moved to New London, where they lived along the Wolf River and he spent many more years fishing. They later moved to Plymouth.
Mr. Kirst is survived by his wife Theresa; son Roy (Linda) of Plymouth; daughter: Janet (Jeff) Liermann of Fredonia; grandsons Brian (Abigail) Liermann of Mount Pleasant, Dan (Kimberly) Liermann of Fredonia and Andrew (fiancee Codie Richards) Liermann of Wauwatosa; stepchildren John Buss of Plymouth and Janet Buss-Stoelb of Chilton; brothers George (Rita) Kirst and Robert (Mary Jane) Kirst, both of Kewaskum; and sister Helen Sanem of Port Washington.
Eugene is further survived by his brothers-in-law David (Theresa) Thomas, Harry (Marlene) Thomas and Joseph (Annie) Thomas, all of Random Lake; and sisters-in-law Ruth Thomas and Diann Thomas, both of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe (Hazel); sister Marie (Vernon) Fay and three brothers-in-law, Donald, Paul and Carl Thomas.
A memorial Mass will be held at noon Saturday, March 24, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Philip Reifenberg will officiate.
Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the Mass.
A memorial fund is being established in Eugene’s name.
Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Plymouth, is handling the arrangements.
