Ethelyne ‘Tudy’ Schumacher

Ethelyne M. Schumacher, “Tudy,” age 96, of Port Washington, Wis., left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at Ellen’s Home, where she had resided for the past year.
Tudy was born Jan. 25, 1925, to Fred and Theresa Meyer Hoppe.
She grew up on the family farm just south of Port Washington on Highway 32 and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1942.
Tudy met Alfred Schumacher and on June 14, 1952, they were married at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington.
They lived for a brief time in Green Bay, Wis., before moving to Overland Park, Kan., in 1957. Together they ran Al Schumacher & Co. of Overland Park, retiring in 1992.
An avid sports enthusiast, she enjoyed her many years as a season ticket holder of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Her husband Al preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1996. She returned to Port Washington in 2001.
Tudy was fiercely independent and lived alone until this past year.
She was active at the Port Washington Senior Center. She loved celebrating birthdays and at family parties. She would shop for and wrap presents and always brought a dish to pass.
Her dogs were her cherished companions that accompanied her everywhere. She was blessed with a long and wonderful life.
Tudy is survived by her sister Betty (the late Harold) Last and her nieces and nephews JoAnn (Walter) Foth, Daniel (Sue) Last, Larry (Barb) Last, Ron (Mary) Last, Diane (Rick) Reinthaler, Tom (Tina) Zausch, John (Janet) Zausch and Peggy Zausch.
She is further survived by great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al and her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy “Bunny” and Robert Zausch.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, Wis.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.
Visitation will be at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the Mass on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.
