Elenteny, Pommer go deep in Saints’ win

The Saukville Saints stopped a three-game skid in  comeback fashion in a scoring fest last Friday.

Plating 12 runs in the last three innings, the Saints beat the Astros in Hustisford.

Alex Elenteny had three hits, including a two-run home run and an RBI double.

Dieter Pommer had three hits, including a two-run homer.

Paul Terriquez had three hits and two RBIs.

An eight-run eighth inning gave the Saints a 10-8 lead.

Luis Dupe walked, and Pommer followed with a two-run homer.

Nathan Huntley then smacked a one-out solo shot.

Christian McCallum then relieved Astros’ starter Brody Thimm, but the Saints’ momentum continued.

Cale Heinonen walked, then McCallum got a strikeout. Simon Bares, Elenteny, Cole Bzdawka and Dupe then all drew walks to score two runs, chasing McCallum.

Devon Michalak came in to pitch. An error scored another run, followed by a walk to Terriquez that plated the seventh run of the inning. Nathan Huntley was hit by a pitch to close the scoring.

In the ninth inning, the Saints added three more runs. Bares walked, and Elenteny clocked a home run. Bzdawka walked, followed by singles from Dieter and Terriquez to make it 13-8.

The Astros rallied for two runs in the ninth, but the Saints held on.

Bzdawka went the distance for the Saints, allowing 16 hits, 10 runs (four earned) while striking out five. He didn’t allow a walk.

The Saints tied the game at 1 in the fifth inning when Elenteny reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on an error.

They added one run in the seventh inning. Heinonen walked, Bares reached on a fielder’s choice and Elenteny doubled him home.

The Astros used four pitchers. After Thimm, McCallum threw one third of an inning. Devon Michalak threw 2/3 of an inning and Sam Roeseler threw 2/3 of an inning.

They scored one run in the third inning, three in the fifth, four in the sixth before their late rally.

The Saints went to 2-6 on the season. The Astros fell to 2-6.

The Saints host the Cedarburg Mercs (2-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Fred Junie Dickmann Field in Saukville. They play at the Brownsville 49ers (4-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28.

The Kewaskum A’s lead the nine-team Rock River Northern Division at 9-0. The Hartford Hawks are 5-3 and Oakfield Oaks are 5-4.
