E-cycle event is May 16

The biennial e-cycle event for the village and town of Belgium residents will be held Saturday, May 16.

From 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., people may bring items for free to the town transfer site at 1215 Jay Rd.

Items accepted include computers, laptops, TVs, monitors, printers, scanners, cell phones, tablets, cables, cords and accessories.

The event, the town said on its website, helps keep hazardous materials out of landfills and protects the environment.

The last event in 2024 drew nearly 15,000 pounds of TVs and nearly 8,000 pounds of metal to be recycled.

Com2 Recycling Solutions is again taking the recycled items.

• In other disposal news, summer hours have started at the transfer site. The site is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through October.

Hot ashes are not being accepted anymore after some started a dumpster fire on April 25, Supr. Tom Bichler said. The town will have to pay for damage to the paint.

The town is looking for a separate bin for people to dispose of ashes, Bichler said.
