It took all of one month for the Town of Belgium to hear from constituents about the new hours at the dump.
Town Chairman Tom Winker said he heard one complaint, and Clerk Ginger Murphy said she had two from people who work on Saturday mornings.
The town changed its dump schedule starting this year to 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The previous schedule had the dump open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It’s hard to please everybody. The overall picture is that 95% of people are happy with the hours,” Supr. Tom Bichler said.
“If you can’t make it, please give me a call. We’ll set something up.”
Bichler also recently purchased a portable toilet for the dump for $150. It can get emptied on call. The Town Board came to a consensus to choose Arnold’s Environmental Service for $100 per service call over Maynard’s Neat and Clean Portables for $200 per call.
Bichler is also researching contract rates with current garbage hauler Waste Management, Harter’s and GFL He said he will have more details in March or April.
“Prices are changing in our favor,” he said.
The town’s contract expires in August.
