Doris Ferguson

Doris Ferguson of Port Washington  passed away unexpectedly at her daughter’s vacation home in Carter, Wis., on Saturday, July 19. She was 92 years old. 

Doris was born in Port Washington on March 26, 1933, the daughter of John and Letha (nee Seliger) Bernick. 

She grew up in Port Washington and graduated from Port Washington High School with the Class of 1951.

On Sept. 11, 1954, she married John “Jack” Ferguson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Doris was a longtime employee in the food service department for the Port Washington-Saukville School District, retiring in 2019 after 43 years. Her warm smile and nurturing spirit fed not just the body but also the soul of countless students.

Doris was a longtime member of St. John XXIII Parish in Port Washington. 

Alongside her husband Jack, she found joy in exploring the southern and eastern regions of the United States, embarking on adventures that allowed them to embrace new experiences and create cherished memories together. 

Doris was a very involved parent, helping with the Windjammers Drum & Bugle Corp. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished her time spent with family in Carter.

Doris is survived by her two children Michael (Cathy) Ferguson and Lisa (Dale) Miller. She is further survived by five grandchildren, Lindsay (Adam) Cornelius, Brandon Dupies, Andrea (fiancée Eric Kanios) Dupies, Renee Gentry Sellin and Crystal (Andy) Kultgen; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Rollin Bernick; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her in-laws and numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws.  

Funeral services for Doris will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington.  

Friends and family are welcome for a visitation on Friday, July 25, at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m.  

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Port Washington.
