Donald Merle Armson

Donald Merle Armson, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022.

Donald was born in Portage, Wis., on June 9, 1953, to parents Norma and William Armson.

Donald graduated from Portage High School in 1971. After high school, Don attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Class of 1975, earning a BBA in business communications.

He held several retail positions, taking him to Iowa, Oregon and Alaska.

He was the middle child of five brothers and also a twin.

Don is survived by brothers William (Michelle), Gary (Joann), Ronald and James (Toni). He is also survived by several other relatives and good friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Susan.

Don loved photography and travel. He explored several interesting locations with his mother, including a trip to Norway, where he explored his inner Viking.

Don had incredible trivia knowledge and loved his Green Bay Packers.

Don,  at 6 feet, 7 inches, was a big guy with a bigger smile. He was always the man who would give you the shirt off his back and was a friend to all who met him. He loved to laugh, have fun and celebrate life.

Despite being totally blind the last 10 years, Don lived on his own and was very proud of his independence. Don’s last position was as a volunteer at the Saukville Humane Society, where he was a greeter to prospective pet adopters. They called him the “puppy whisperer” with an almost 100% adoption rate. Don was featured on the local news a few years ago at the Humane Society.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus in Saukville are greatly appreciated.

Following cremation, a celebration of Don’s life will be held in the coming weeks at Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington.

Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
