District to get update on energy grant request in March

The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board last week learned it would find out if its grant request will be awarded next month.

The district is one of 106 that applied for $24 million in Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation Grants. Proposed projects include finishing upgrading the district’s lights to LED fixtures and replacing a boiler. The cost is $305,000. The grant would cover $143,000.

Grant applications were broke down into two categories. The district is one of 52 entities vying for $15 million. A total of $3 million will be rewarded.

Director of Buildings and Grounds Ben Lukens said Upper 90 Energy of Madison, the consultant that wrote the district’s grant, is optimistic about the district’s chances since it didn’t request a large sum of money.
