Deprived at the Triangle:

If Don McLean were singing about Saukville, he might say this was the summer the music died.

The first three concerts of the village’s Live at the Triangle series, which had been scheduled for June 10 and 24 and July 8, were scuttled by rain and storms.

“The weather has not cooperated at all,” Bob Mittnacht, who coordinates the concerts, said. “We’re not real happy about it, but we’re making the best of it.”

Mittnacht, who has been putting the concert series together for its 18-year run, said he’s never experienced anything quite like this. There’s been the occasional rain-out, but never more than one or two during the entire summer — until now.

“That’s the challenge of doing concerts outside in summer,” he said.

Mittnacht noted that the first scheduled concert by Lost FM was actually moved twice. It was first set for June 10, then moved to June 17, when it was rained out.

But in the end, the music won’t die. Two of the concerts have been rescheduled.

“We’re going to go for five straight Wednesdays,” Mittnacht said.

Unfortunately, Mittnacht said, the July 8 concert by 2025 WAMI Blues Band of the Year The Jimmys probably won’t be rescheduled.

“From a contractual standpoint, it would be hard to do that,” he said. “The sound was there. The band was there.”

But the concert was canceled when the weather hit.

The next concert  — weather willing — will feature Mt. Olive on July 22.

Conscious Pilot, which had been set to perform on June 24, will now play a concert on July 29.

Wire & Nail will play its original date of Aug. 5, then on Aug. 12, Lost FM is expected to play a rescheduled concert.

The series is expected to wrap up on Aug. 19 with a concert by The First Wave.

Weather permitting, of course.

“We’ve got to hope for five Wednesdays of nice weather,” Mittnacht said. “But if we have to reschedule another one or two, we’ll keep working on it. We’re hoping to get them all in before the weather turns cold.”

The free concerts are held from 7 to 9 p.m. in Veterans Park.
