Delores ‘Tuddie’ Meifert

Dolores F. Meifert, “Tuddie,” age 95, died at her Port Washington, Wis., residence on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021.

Dolores was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Gillett, Wis., to Samuel and Olga Petrick Barke.  

She grew up in Gillett, where her father was a logger.  As a teenager, she was a proud post peeler, removing the bark from timber to be sold for building posts.  

After high school, she moved to Milwaukee with her sister Grace to find work. 

She met Hugo Meifert at a dance in Green Valley, Wis., and they were married June 18, 1949, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gillett, Wis.  

They lived in Milwaukee, and Dolores worked as an inspector for the former Phoenix Hosiery Mfg. Co. in Milwaukee for over 25 years.

In 1975, they moved to Fredonia, Wis., building a house on Crystal Springs Drive.  Hugo created art and furniture using horse collars and wagon wheels amongst other farm relics. Together they enjoyed country life and creativity thrived. They took many trips through the countryside to find that special piece for the latest project.  

They were members of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Random Lake, Wis., for over 40 years.

Dolores took great pride in keeping an immaculate house and tending to the garden. In 2010, they moved to Harbor Village in Port Washington.  

Hugo preceded her in death Aug. 24, 2010.

She is survived by Emmie Jean Barke of Gillett, Wis., her sister-in-law that was more of a sister; cousins Jean Giese and Barbara Hildeman; nieces; nephews; other dear relatives and friends, including Betty and Jerry Zak. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hugo and her siblings Arnold, Vernon, Herbie and Grace.

Pastor Bridget Hill officiated funeral services on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Random Lake, Wis.  

Interment was in Random Lake Union Cemetery. 

Memorials to St. John’s United Church of Christ are appreciated.

Dolores left one last note for those she loved: “Thank you all so much for everything you ever did for me and Hugo. See you all in Heaven. My Love, Dolores.”
