David G. Sather

David G. Sather of Port Washington passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 1:43 p.m. (I love you) surrounded by his family singing him into Heaven.

He was born in St. Louis, Minn., on June 19, 1945, to Gordon and Alice Sather.

David married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Bette Peterson, on Feb. 12, 1966. During their 57 years together, they raised two sons, Jeffrey and Michael.

Dave had his master’s degree in education, and because of his passion for athletics he was hired from Floodwood High School in Minnesota to be Thomas Jefferson Middle School’s first physical education and health instructor.

He was a dedicated husband, dad, grandfather, best friend, coach, teacher and mentor. He loved God, hockey, golf, fishing, turkey hunting, motorcycle riding, traveling, skating and skiing. Dave was gifted at making people feel relevant and had a knack for making them feel they could reach their full potential. Dave had a legendary sweet tooth and was well known for convincing others to have dessert with him.

Dave’s first love was the Lord Jesus Christ, his personal savior. Dave was an elder for many years at Friedens Church in Port Washington and was also very involved in men’s ministries.

He cherished and adored his family and was at his happiest when everyone was home for the holidays.

David will remain in the hearts of his loving family: wife Bette; sons Jeffrey (Wendy) of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Michael (April) of Beech Island, S.C.; grandchildren Tyler Sather, Kali (Jake) Hurlburt, MacKenzie Sather, Keagan Sather and Landon Sather; great-grandchildren Paisley and Jett-Jacob Hurlburt; and siblings Bonnie (Dale) Kinnunen, Thomas Sather, Sherry (Steve) Benjaminson and Steve (Barb) Sather.

He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Dave will take place on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Friedens Church, 454 N. Milwaukee St., Port Washington, Wis., 53074. Words of joyful remembrance and celebration will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. If you have a special story about Dave, please come and share.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Friedens Church or a charity of your choice in Dave’s name.

Dave’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the oncology department, ICU and hospice staff at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital.
