Cultural Center sets its summer slate of classes

A wide variety of classes are being scheduled at the Cedarburg Cultural Center this summer.
Each class is being capped at 10 students, and teachers and students will be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
The classes include lessons on a variety of painting techniques, mediums and subjects, printmaking, photography, including iPhone photography, stained glass, enameling, sculpture, plein air painting and sketching.
In addition to classes for adults, there will also be lessons for children.
Yoga classes are also offered by the center.
There will also be cocktails and canvas nights, as well as artist talks.
Robert Olney will discuss “History of Mission San Xavier del Bac Church” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.
The mission south of Tucson, Ariz., has been dubbed the “Sistine Chapel of North America” because of its elaborately painted interior. Completed in 1797 by Native American and Mexican laborers, the church has survived largely intact in spite of the fact that it was abandoned for years, rocked by earthquakes, inhabited by small desert animals, and endured more than two centuries of countless visitors.
Chris Behrs will offer a talk titled “ Westside Story” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Behrs, who grew up west of downtown Milwaukee, began drawing at a young age, inspired by two of his older brothers who both liked to draw. He has a bachelor’s degree in oil painting from MIAD and a master of science degree in art education from Concordia University, teaches art and technical theater at Cedarburg High School and is the president of Wisconsin Pastel Artists and a Cedarburg Artists Guild member.
