County sells parcel sought by village

A parcel of land coveted by the Village of Fredonia was sold at public auction last week by Ozaukee County.

The one-third-acre lot at the corner of Wheeler Avenue and Stoney Creek Lane sold for $22,500 to David Janik. There was one other bid.

The minimum bid was set at $19,900, its current appraised value. Its current assessed value is $41,800, according to the county.

The property was seized by the county for failure to pay back taxes of $3,756 to the county and $5,509 to the village.

Village officials had hoped no bids met the minimum so the village could negotiate with the county to obtain the property and install parking for the nearby soccer and baseball fields.

The property is zoned residential and was sold as is.
