County plans observation deck at Tendick Park

Tendick Nature Park in the Town of Saukville may soon be getting an observation deck equipped with a wheelchair ramp that would overlook the 122-acre park.

The county Natural Resources Committee last month approved spending $19,855 to pay for architectural design and engineering services for the American Disabilities Act-compliant structure.

Money for the project will be provided through grants and private donations.

The wooden overlook structure will be located near the park pond.

The height is as yet unknown, pending an analysis by Kueny Architects, county Planning and Parks Director Andrew Struck said.

The objective of the overlook is to give a scenic view of the park, he said.

“We hope to have some height to it,” he said. “It won’t be like the Sheboygan Marsh tower, though.”

The project cost includes a 20% contingency fund. It is expected to be completed this year.

The park features an archery range, wetlands boardwalk, canoe launch on the Milwaukee River, disc golf, walking trails, grills, a pavilion and restrooms.
