Concessions Impressions

Apparently, not every high school state tournament is trying to capture all your cash when it comes to concessions.

The state soccer tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee offers more affordable food and beverage options.

Unlike the state wrestling at the Kohl Center in Madison and state baseball at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute — $5 and $4.75 for water, respectively — Uihlein has prices that fit into more normal budgets.

Hot food ranged from $3.50 to $7.  Side dishes started at $3 and topped out at $6.

Combo meals were $10.

Cousins Subs were $9 each and offered the choice of ham or turkey.

Menus on sheets of typing paper were taped to the windows of the concession stand centrally located between the two sets of bleachers.

I couldn’t find a beverage menu, but I took a chance on Gatorade. $3.50.

Pricing like that is as refreshing as a reasonably priced sports drink on a warm sunny day. Plus, that means water would be WAY LESS THAN $5.

For those of you who do not think that is a big deal, I take you back to the soccer championship games of 2025, when the year also seemed to be same number that registered on the temperature gauge.

A heat warning was issued with indexes reaching the 105 range. Water then was $1.50, a fair cost for everyone in need hydration.

I remember buying a few bottles, then not drinking them all because by the time you downed one the others were hot enough to brew a cup of cafe americano.

Speaking of soccer, I did one of those internet searches the other day because I had forgotten how many Big East Conference titles Cedar Grove-Belgium won in a row, having the streak snapped this season by the stellar Random Lake/Ozaukee squad. (When you win that many, it can be difficult to keep track.)

The above screen shot was the result which, as you can see, listed me as the coach of the 2024 state championship team.

For the record, I am not the coach nor ever have been.

I know what some of you who live and work in the area are thinking. Did I just wait for 47 quad-axle dump trucks to go by on my commute so they can construct this monstrosity to spit out this garbage?

Ha ha! Of course not. It was probably closer to 73 trucks.

Artificial intelligence since fixed that error, and instead had Zac Garza’s brother Elias assisting him as coach. Elias is his father. I informed the computer of this error, and it told me I was correct. Which begs the question, if it knew that it was wrong, why did it say that in the first place? Alas, that is another inquiry for AI.

Nonetheless, I will still be seeking my gold medal in order to parade it around like Kramer did with his Tony on “Seinfeld.”
