Children’s activities set for spring at Port library

 

Spring activities at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington have been announced.

“Reading, Playing and Growing with Miss Beth,” an interactive, online storytime that will highlight the five practices of early literacy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 17 to April 28.

Paws to Read Month will be celebrated from March 1 to 31.

The activities include reading to a therapy dog, virtual storytimes, tours with staff of the Wisconsin Humane Society, a “Furry Friends Food Drive” and fleece blanket crafting.

An online storytime with special guests from the Humane Society will be held at 5 p.m. March 3. The book “A Home for Nathan” by Claudia M. Roll will be read and a discussion of animal safety and animal communication will be held.

Children may read to Diesel, a therapy dog, from 4 to 6 p.m. March 11, 18 and 25.

Diesel is a German shepherd/husky mix and a certified therapy dog through Therapy Dogs International.

A Furry Friends Food Drive to benefit the Humane Society will be conducted at the library throughout March.

Needed items include dry adult cat and dog food, cat and dog treats and cat litter.

Take and Make Fleece Blanket kits will also be available throughout March.

Youngsters may pick up a blanket kit available in the Children’s Library while supplies last. The completed blankets will be given to the Humane Society.

Virtual Music and  Movement with Miss Jamie will be held via Zoom at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, March 9 and 23 and April 13 and 27.
