The Rocket Academy, Cedar Grove-Belgium School District’s charter school focused on technical education that’s slated to open in fall 2023, is narrowing down where it will be located.

Academy director David Friend on Tuesday told the Governance Board, the body that serves as the school board for the academy, that a couple of options are in play.

Krier Foods is open to discussing construction of a building on a lot in Belgium that it would lease to the school. The lot is next to a building owned by Krier Foods that would be ideal for the school but already has a tenant who likely won’t be out by next fall.

The plan would be to expand into the existing building, which Friend said would be large enough to house two or three of the school’s programs.

Friend was going to meet with a representative from Krier Foods on Wednesday to discuss the plans.

Down the line, another new building on land in Cedar Grove is also a possibility. The academy could operate on multiple campuses, Friend said.
