CG-Belgium announces hall of famers

The Cedar Grove-Belgium School District has announced that five people will join its high school Hall of Fame this fall.

Michael Ansay, a 1972 graduate, is a successful business leader and generous supporter of Cedar Grove-Belgium Schools. He has demonstrated a commitment to giving back to the community and has made a lasting impact on students throughout the district, according to a release from the district.

Paul Dekker, a 1971 graduate, coached boys’ basketball for decades and served as a mentor, developing students on and off the court.

Christy Knowles, a 1994 graduate, made history as the first woman elected sheriff of Ozaukee County. Her leadership, dedication to public safety and commitment to serving others exemplify the values of Cedar Grove-Belgium.

Kurt Mattek, a 1996 graduate, won a state wrestling championship and his accomplishments on the mat serve as a testament to the excellence that can be achieved through perseverance.

Maureen Mersberger devoted her career to educating and inspiring students as a longtime middle school teacher while championing veteran causes that strengthened the school and the community.

The five will be recognized at halftime of the home football game on Friday, Oct. 9.

A dinner followed by the induction ceremony at the school will be held Saturday, Oct. 10. The 7 p.m. ceremony is open to the public.

This is the fourth class to join the Hall of Fame, which started in 2023.
