Buckled highway stops traffic

Traffic on Highway 57 in the Town of Fredonia came to a halt Sunday, June 30, when a stretch of pavement buckled due to the heat, Ozaukee County Public Works Director Jon Edgren said. He said the buckling is caused when two concrete slabs expand in the heat and push against one another. The break will be patched, and at a future date the lane will be closed so crews can complete a long-term concrete repair, Edgren said. Photo by Sam Arendt
