Brewers ace throws a strike for Port

It’s not just Jacob Misiorowski’s pitches that travel at high speeds.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ star last week may have inadvertently given the equivalent of a 105-mph boost to Port Washington tourism.
Misiorowski wore a Port Washington shirt while appearing on the nationally syndicated sports program, “The Dan Patrick Show.”
A screen capture of the show is making its way across social media.
The shirt was purchased at Pear & Simple in downtown Port. Owner Lauren Finegold wasn’t in the store during Misiorowski’s visit.
“I heard because people were texting me the photo when he was on the show. We were all freaking out about it,” Finegold said.
“It’s exciting that he wore that shirt, a shirt I designed. It’s just cool that anything he could have worn that day he wore that shirt.”
The visit from the presumptive Cy Young Award winner was the talk of Port’s Fall Street Festival on Saturday, she said, the day Misirowoski took the mound to open the Brewers’ playoff series against the San Diego Padres.
Finegold said she doesn’t know why Misiorowski was in Port but heard he stopped at a couple of places.
“He’s so tall I can’t imagine people wouldn’t recognize him or wonder who that is,” she said.
Misiorowski, 24, is 6 feet, 7 inches tall. He went 16-5 and led the league in earned-run average with 1.8 and strikeouts with 252 in just 174-2/3 innings pitched during the regular season. He has thrown the fastest pitch in baseball this season at 105.5 mph.
Director of Port Washington Tourism Kristina Tadeo said the exposure could help a city already seeing an increase in visits.
“I think any widespread press like this is good news for Port Washington,” she said. “We’re just happy to be part of the energy of the Brewers and cheering on the Brewers.”
As of Tuesday, only two of the kind of shirts Misiorowski wore were left. She isn’t sure if that was a coincidence and she might order more.
“It’s a fun whirlwind with it. Hopefully he comes back to Port again to explore all we have downtown,” Finegold said.
Perhaps he’ll be wearing a World Series ring next time.
