Books on Bikes returns this summer

Cedar Grove-Belgium Elementary School reading specialist Mary Claerbaut is giving books away again this summer through her Books on Bikes program.

New books have been donated to the program, and Claerbaut’s bike was given to her by the Cedar Grove-Belgium High School Student Council.

Children receive a free book and are entered in a drawing to win a free bike, lunch with Elementary School Principal Jeff Kondrakiewicz, an extra recess for a class in fall, delivering the football to midfield before a high school game and swim passes.

“Along with books, kids get prizes each week, too,” Claerbaut said.

Last summer, more than 160 students participated.

This summer’s schedule is: 2:30 to 3 p.m. at Memorial Park in Cedar Grove and 3:30 to 4 p.m. at Community Park in Belgium on June 23, 30, July 7, 14 and 28.

On Aug. 4, the times change to 3:30 to 4 p.m. in Cedar Grove and 4:30 to 5 p.m. in Belgium.
