The Grafton Police Department is investigating a false report of a bomb threat at Dick’s Sporting Goods last weekend.

Officers responded to the Grafton Commons shopping center store after receiving a call at about 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

“The caller stated there was an explosive device in the store, and it was going to detonate,” Grafton Police Chief Charles Wenten said.

Officers evacuated the store, parking lot and surrounding area, Wenten said. They also limited access to the shopping center at Highway 60 and Port Washington Road for about three hours until the area was judged to be safe.

The Milwaukee Police Department also responded to the incident, bringing a bomb-squad unit, which did not find an explosive device at the scene.

Wenten said no one was injured during the search, and the investigation is ongoing.

Another Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Brookfield received a similar threat at the same time.

Wenten said the Grafton Police Department is coordinating an investigation with the Brookfield and Milwaukee police departments.

The Grafton sporting goods store is at 1020 Port Washington Rd.
