Board approves new logo

A collaborative effort between a graphic artist and a college student studying graphic design has yielded a new logo for the Village of Belgium.

The Village Board on Monday selected the logo from a group of six similar designs. 

Trustees preferred the font of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student Micalah Taylor — the niece of Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein — and the design of graphic designer Sherry Smies, who is originally from the area.

Trustee Rose Sauers said she likes the bicycle in the logo that could reference the  Ozaukee Interurban Trail that runs through the village.

The logo’s colors are that of the Luxembourg flag, honoring the village’s heritage.

“When we gave the direction to the designer we pulled in all the branding that we’ve been working on, and thinking about all the assets and attributes of the village that we’ve come up with,” Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Tara Williams said.

The Chamber, which paid Smies to develop a new logo for the organization, paid $90 for the village logo.
