Biotech firm gets go-ahead from village for expansion

The Saukville Community Development Authority recently approved a $48 million phased expansion of Jeneil Biotech that’s been two years in the making.  

The company, which produces natural dairy flavors, plans to expand its facility at 400 N. Dekora Woods Blvd. in three construction phases. 

The first phase calls for 32,800 square feet for fermentation and equipment rooms and a utility building on the northwest part of the site.

The second phase will be 25,590 square feet for offices.

The third will be a 81,408-square-foot warehouse.

The first phase is expected to be completed in March 2022. Timelines for the second and third phases have not yet been determined, according to documents filed with the village.

Company officials have previously said they thought it would take about two years to complete all three phases.

The new expansion is the latest in a series of additions since Jeneil constructed a 163,000-square-foot facility in 1996. Since then, the company has built additions of 20,000; 5,350; and 44,800 square feet.

The new plan was originally proposed in  March 2018 and approved by the village. It was put on hold, however, in September of that year due to a change in business plans.

The company has said it expects to add  10 to 15 jobs as a result of the expansion. 

Jeniel Biotech officials have said they considered alternative locations outside of the village but that it was important for the company to remain in Saukville.
