Backpacks of books donated to firefighters

Two backpacks of books were donated to the Port Washington Fire Department during a Sept. 29 meeting and dinner for Ozaukee Lodge #17 and Order of the Eastern Star Ozaukee Chapter .

The books will be provided to children in crisis that the department comes in contact with through the Reach-A-Child program.

Curt Fuszard, executive director of the nonprofit organization, discussed its mission to deliver backpacks full of children’s books to first responders to use when they respond to incidents. The books are used to read to youngsters and keep their attention away from the crisis.

The Port Washington’s Police Department already participates in the program.
