Anniversary Robert and Alice Sauer

Robert and Alice Sauer are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, June 16.

Robert Sauer of Port Washington and Alice Grob of Grafton were married on June 16, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton.

The couple have nine children, the late Susan Sauer, Jean Sauer of Racine, Nancy (Bryan) Garness of Merton, Sharon (Richard Douglas) McQueen of Norfolk, Va., Ann Sauer of Grafton, David (Nunnapatch) of Grafton, Teresa (Tim) Klumb of Grafton, Karen Nest of Oak Creek and Brian Sauer of Grafton.

They have five grandchildren, Nicole (Aaron), Steven, Jacob, Mae and Terapong, and three great-grandchildren, Theodore, Charlie and Allison.

The couple owned and operated the Cedarburg Dairy Queen for 30 years, until 1994.  Mrs. Sauer managed the day-to-day business and her husband maintained the machinery while also working at Ted Grob Corp. until retiring in 2000.

Being a talented carpenter, Mr. Sauer did much of the work on the family’s home when it was built.  He can still be found in his workshop, designing and creating the most wonderful woodwork projects for family and friends.

His wife has a hand in the projects, too, often helping with painting, staining and varnishing. She also created many crafts and paintings over the years.

The couple, who each celebrated their 90th birthday in December, enjoy playing Yahtzee and solving jigsaw puzzles, many of them extremely difficult.

The couple continue to volunteer their time whenever possible, visit their children and attend school activities, sporting events and performances.
