Anne (Haertel) Weyker

Anne (Haertel) Weyker passed away peacefully on Nov. 14 surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with chronic kidney disease. She faced her final days with the same strength, humor and grace that defined her remarkable life. 

Born in Milwaukee, Wis., to Carl and Pearl (Haidle) Haertel, Anne was the youngest of her siblings Marilyn, Jim, John and Jane. The family later grew to include stepmother Till (Ertl) Haertel and stepsiblings Jim, Dolores (Dolly) and Lucille. 

Anne grew up in Wauwatosa and Oconomowoc, graduating from Oconomowoc High School in 1956 and from Marquette University in 1960 with a degree in journalism. 

That same year, she married Sylvester “Syl” Weyker, beginning a life full of family, friendship and adventure. They first lived in Cherry Point, N.C., while Syl served in the Marine Corps, later returning to Wisconsin to raise their family on the farm in Belgium. 

Anne’s career reflected her gift for words and her love of people. She worked as a writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Ozaukee Press, for Donahue & Associates in Sheboygan and ultimately in her most cherished role as an assistant in the UW-Extension Office for Ozaukee County, where she supported the 4-H program. Generations of Ozaukee County youth remember her humor, kindness and steady leadership — especially during the County Fair. 

She and Syl led the Jay Road 4-H Club for decades and later discovered a shared love for Norwegian Fjord horses, raising several generations on Clay Ridge Farm. 

Anne also had a passion for antiques, books and letter writing. 

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Till, siblings John, Jim and Marilyn, stepsiblings Jim, Lucille and Dolly, husband Syl and son Andrew. 

She is survived by her sister Jane (Dale) Tremaine, sister-in-laws Carol Ertl and Joyce Weyker, and brother-in-law Father James Weyker, SDS. 

She is also survived by children Julie (Bob) Cramer, Joe Weyker, Tim Weyker and Sarah (Keith) Apfelbeck; daughters-in-law Kim (Andrew) Weyker and Becky Weyker; close family friends Sandy Johns and Sue Gagnon; grandchildren Rachel (Andy) Feldmann and Ryan, Lyndy, Nick and Jon (Taylor); and great-grandchildren Penelope, Eloise, Sunny and Rocky. 

Anne’s life was a master class in resilience, humor and the power of words. She will be remembered for her warmth, wit and the countless ways she made others feel seen and loved. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 319 Giddings Ave., Sheboygan Falls. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 2 p.m. A private family internment will take place at a later date.  

Donations can be made to the ALS Foundation or Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Da Vita in Cedarburg for the dedicated service to Anne, especially Dr. Anushayanthan Alfred, who has cared for mom since 2022. Gratitude also to the nursing staff at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton and Sharon Richardson Community Hospice.
