Alfred Lee Mentzel

PAID OBITUARY

Alfred Lee Mentzel of Grafton was called home to be with his Lord on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at the age of 73.  

He was born in Port Washington to Alfred and Evelyn Mentzel on May 26, 1945.  

He married Annette Pergande on June 11, 1966, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and together they had four children and 11 grandchildren.

Al was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Cedarburg High School and went directly on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman.  

He retired as a mail carrier from the Cedarburg Post Office after 33 years of dedicated service.   

Above all, his faith and family were most important to him. He was a husband who loved his best friend and wife of 52 years unconditionally. He was a dad who taught deep love and reverence for the Lord and to have a passion and fierce love for family.  

Al’s interests and hobbies included deer hunting, fishing, reading, playing cards (solitaire), putting together jig-saw puzzles and traveling.  Al enjoyed attending the grandkid’s activities, sporting events and concerts.

Alfred is survived by his wife Annette; children Timothy (Julia) Mentzel of Grafton, Bryan (fiancee Lauri) Mentzel of Grafton, Kristin (Chad) Melnick of Sussex and Lori (Bob) Marien of West Bend; grandchildren Taylor (fiance Michael) Mentzel, Tyce Mentzel, Livia Mentzel,  Alex Mentzel, Sarah Mentzel, Magnolia Melnick, Arlo Melnick, Trevor Marien, Tanner Marien and Carter Marien; sisters Carol Kempke of Waukesha and Helen (Pat) Lewis of Montana; brother Robert (Barb) Mentzel of Oklahoma; mother-in-law Lillian Pergande of Grafton; sister-in-law Ellen (Mike) Tolzman of Cedarburg; and brother-in-law Jan (Tammie) Pergande of Cedarburg.  

He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Evelyn Mentzel, granddaughter Isabelle Mentzel and father-in-law Wallace Pergande.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, with Pastor Scott Kruse presiding.  

Alfred was laid to rest at St Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Grafton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Good Samaritan Fund for St. Paul Lutheran School.

Eernisse Funeral Home of Cedarburg assisted the family.
