Two on ballot but only one in the running for village president
Two names are on the ballot for Grafton village president for the Tuesday, April 4, election, but only one would take the job.
Trustee Lisa Uribe Harbeck dropped out of the race due to “unanticipated family obligations” after it was too late to remove her name from the ballot.
She said she is supporting Trustee Dan Delorit for the position. She already called to congratulate him, she said.
“We don’t have bad feelings for each other,” Uribe Harbeck said, adding she offered Delorit help “in whatever capacity” he needs.
It was better to exit the race this way, she said, “rather than going for it and possibly getting elected and having to step down. That’s not fair.”
Uribe Harbeck said she will remain a trustee until her term is up in 2024. She hasn’t decided if she will seek re-election.
Uribe Harbeck joined the board in 2010.
Village President Jim Brunquell is not seeking re-election after nearly 20 years in the role.
The Village Board will get three new trustees after Tuesday’s election. Incumbents David Antoine and Thomas Krueger did not seek re-election, and Delorit’s position will need to be filled after he takes over as village president.
Dave Armstrong and Mary Pat Fenton are running unopposed and will fill Antoine and Krueger’s positions, and incumbent Jim Miller is running unopposed.
Delorit has been a trustee since 2020, winning re-election in 2022. He is a registered respiratory therapist with the Department of Veteran Affairs.
