Town wants county to make intersection safer
Numerous close calls at the intersection of Hawthorne Road and Highway Y in the Town of Saukville have convinced town supervisors that something needs to be done to keep motorists safe.
“It would be a real shame if we waited until there is a fatality,” said Supr. Curt Rutkowski.
At Tuesday’s Town Board meeting, supervisors agreed to draft a resolution asking the Ozaukee County Highway Department to look at what might be done to make the intersection safer.
“It’s a dangerous intersection. That’s been brought to our attention by multiple residents multiple times,” Rutkowski said. “There is an ocean of near misses that anybody in that area who has had to turn east onto Hawthorne has experienced with great frequency.”
Supervisors said the resolution will be intended to begin a discussion with the county and not to demand a stop sign or specific measure.
“I don’t think we’re going to be prescriptive. I think we need to open a dialogue and get our best minds together,” Rutkowski said.
