Town roadwork to begin next week
The Town of Fredonia is nearing the start of projects it identified during its annual spring road tour.
Installing culverts on Fairway Drive could start as early as next week, Town Chairman Chris Janik said.
After that, a three-inch overlay of asphalt is slated to be put on the road to extend its life. Janik said he thinks that work will be done in October.
“The project won’t take more than a day,” he said.
The cost is estimated to be $260,000.
Another small project is reshouldering and adding a two-inch overlay on Pinecrest Lane. That job has about the same time frame as the other one, Janik said.
That project is expected to cost $38,000.
The town is using Ozaukee County crews to do both jobs.
In addition, engineering work is being completed for the reconstruction of Belgium-Kohler Road. The town received a $1.83 million grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation last year that will fund about 90% of the $2.04 million project.
The project will likely go out for bids early next year, Janik said.
The town is also trying to sort out road maintenance with other municipalities it shares roads with, including the towns of Belgium, Saukville and Farmington, as well as the Village of Fredonia.
“We need to figure out which segments are ours to figure out a budget for the following year,” Janik said.
A multiple-year road maintenance plan is also in the works to be completed this year, he said.
