Town to get Lake Michigan water quality update

The Belgium Town Board will receive an update on Lake Michigan water quality at Monday’s meeting.

Ozaukee County Land and Water Management Director Andy Holschbach will provide the latest information.

Last October, Holschbach reported that a study of water in and near Harrington Beach State Park showed high levels of E. coli and nearly 30 instances of possibly failing septic systems.

The department used a $38,500 grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan to monitor water quality as a follow-up to 11 years of research by the Ozaukee County Public Health Department.

Monday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 171 Main St.
