Teen dating, vaping to be discussed

Two workshops intended to help parents of adolescents will be held in November by Ozaukee Family Services.

“Parenting when your kids start dating” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2.

Mary Knetter, sexual violence victim services director, and Shaina Buckner, community sexual assault advocate, will lead discussions on how to set rules, expectations and boundaries for children’s relationships.

They will also offer steps to take to ensure teen’s relationships are healthy and warning signs that may indicate unhealthy or abusive relationships.

“Vaping among youths: Myths vs. facts” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16.

The workshop will discuss the importance of monitoring teens’ substance use by highlighting e-cigarette use and concerns, warning signs, protective  factors and suggestions for caregivers and parents.

The session will be facilitated by John Fischer, a Rogers Behavioral Health therapist.

Free childcare is available, but advance registration is required.

There is no fee for either workshop.
