St. Paul Lutheran School music teacher Valerie Bremer was recently named a recipient of the Herb Kohl Foundation Teacher Fellowship Award.

The Herb Kohl Teacher Fellowship recognizes teachers who have demonstrated superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, have motivated others and provided meritorious service in and out of the classroom.

“Val is an exceptional teacher,” Principal Michael Yurk said.

“She is blessed with outstanding organization skills, a willingness to learn and incorporate new teaching techniques to meet the needs of our diverse learning population, a desire to get parents involved in her classroom and differentiate her lessons to ensure all students have the opportunity to find an aspect of music that works for them.”

Bremer teaches music to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. She is also the music director for St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Bremer and St. Paul Lutheran School will each receive a $6,000 award from the foundation.

The foundation has been recognizing excellence in education since 1990. It has awarded fellowships to 100 teachers and matching grants to each fellow’s school in Wisconsin totaling  $21.2 million.
