A spirited fundraiser just in time for the grand opening of Port High’s gym

Standing on the student bleachers in Port Washington’s new arena-style gym Tuesday, members of the school’s DECA business and marketing club modeled “6th-man” shirts they designed and are selling just in time for the official opening of the gym Friday, Jan. 11, during a coed basketball  double-header against Grafton. The design on the front of the shirts was created by Tanner Sauer (left) and Ray Benson (middle back). The design on the back of the shirts, which reads “Sink Childhood Cancer,” was created by (from left) Angel McKoy, Alyssa Gaulthier, Claudia Weyker and Ashlyn Chmielewski. The shirts, as well as sweatshirts, will be sold at Friday’s game with proceeds benefitting the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund. Double-header action begins at 4 p.m. with the junior varisty girls’ game followed by the varsity girls’ game at 5:45 p.m. A program commemorating the opening of the gym as well as the wrestling room, fitness center, school store and a historic display near the entrance of the school is scheduled to begin at 6:55 p.m. and wrap up in time for the varsity boys’ game at 7:15 p.m. Port High’s Limited Edition a cappella group, pep band, dance team and drum line and Grafton High School’s dance team will perform during the halftimes of the varsity games and before the boys’ game.      Photo by Bill Schanen IV
