Serving up some stone soup

United Way of Northern Ozaukee held its fourth annual Stone Soup event on Saturday, Oct. 5. More than 40 volunteers packaged soup made from foods donated by the community and the 300 quarts of soup were then donated to three local food pantries and Advocates of Ozaukee. Nonperishable food items were then donated to Advocates of Ozaukee and Family Sharing of Ozaukee. Among the volunteers were (top photo, from left) Michaela Paukner, Tom Johnson, United Way Executive Director Barbara Bates-Nelson, Heidi Janous and Nancy Gierach. Eric Willborn (far left photo), the sous chef and kitchen manager at Twisted Willow restaurant, stirred a pot of soup, which was made at the Port eatery. Showing off the 150 pounds of vegetables that had to be chopped for the soup were (near left photo) Willborn, Candy Scudder, owner and general manager at Twisted Willow, and Bates-Nelson.
