The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board last month approved new starting times for all three schools to be implemented this fall.

The district’s administrative team recommended the changes, which could decrease the number of days to be made up in case school is canceled due to weather, which occurred several times last year.

The elementary school will start five minutes earlier at 8:30 a.m.

The middle school will start two minutes earlier at 7:35 a.m.

The high school will start two minutes later at 7:44 a.m.

All release times remain unchanged. The elementary school gets out at 3:35 p.m., the middle school at 2:47 p.m. and the high school at 2:55 p.m.

“Based on the minutes that were added last year due to school day cancellations, the administrators uncovered the added minutes enhanced classes that were able to be expanded three to five minutes,” Supt. Jeanne Courneene said.

“With the slight changes to the start and end times for the 2019-2020 year, instructional hours have increased, which will help manage any snow cancellation days for 2019-2020.”
