Quarantine Quilt exhibit opens, talks set at museum
The Quarantine Quilt exhibit at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts is now open.
The exhibit has more than 450 quilt blocks submitted by quilters from throughout the United States and the world.
The blocks demonstrate a diversity of techniques, including embroidery, collage, felt, weaving and rug hooking.
The blocks have been fashioned into 27 quilts, with more to be made.
The pandemic will also be the topic for an online chat titled “Artists During the Pandemic” at noon Friday, Sept. 4.
The chat will discuss how the coronavirus pandemic has influenced artists, with comments from a number of them. The museum has several other online discussions scheduled as well.
“Behind the Scenes: Exhibiting Textiles” will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 21.
The discussion will be about what goes into making an exhibition, deciding the best way to hang artwork and considering how the way art is displayed influences how viewer interpret it.
Museum Exhibit Curator Emily Schlemowitz, Collections and Education Manager Devyn McIlraith and former Exhibit Curator Jaime Henry will present the program.
“Behind the Scenes: Studio Tour with Lee Heinrich” will be the noon Friday, Sept. 18, online discussion.
The talk will include a tour with modern quilter and author Lee Heinrich.

The museum at N50 W5050 Portland Rd., Cedarburg, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
