Program set for caregivers of people with mental illnesses

A Family-to-Family Education Program for supporters of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness will be held in Grafton from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from March 13 through May 8.

The free course, offered by The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Ozaukee County in affiliation with United Way of Northern Ozaukee County, is intended for adult family members, friends and significant others of persons living with mental illness.

The course includes information on illnesses such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other mental health disorders.

It will also address strategies for communicating with the person dealing with mental illness, maintenance of the supporter’s health and minimizing life disruption.

The program is taught by trained volunteers who have supported loved ones dealing with mental health disorders.
