An issue that has been a thorn in the side of the Belgium Town Board again sprouted is head last month.

A hauler for Lakeside Foods spilled potatoes onto a town road.

Town Chairman Tom Winker said he called a sweeper to clean it up and would give the bill to Lakeside Foods.

“The town should not be responsible for that,” Winker said.

Resident Dennis Dimmer said the spill was dangerous, spanning three feet wide and two inches deep.

“It was a mess. It’s unacceptable,” Winker said.

“I think the spills were less this year but less doesn’t make it acceptable.”

Winker said at this month’s Town Board meeting he planned to talk to Lakeside Foods about the issue.
