Memorial Day will be commemorated in Port Washington in traditional fashion this year.

The day will begin with a 10:30 a.m. parade that will start at the corner of Wisconsin and Main streets, head south to Grand Avenue and make its way to Veterans Memorial Park.

A program will be held at the park featuring Allen Richards of the Rose-Harms American Legion Post in Grafton. Richards, who has a purple heart, is a Vietnam era veteran who is involved in state American Legion activities, Van Ells-Schanen Post 82 Commander John Jacque said.

Port Washington Mayor Ted Neitzke will also speak.

There will be a flag-folding demonstration, taps will be played and a gun salute held.

The Port Washington High School band will play, and the high school’s Limited Edition a capella group will also perform.

Following the ceremony, the Legion will provide hot dogs and ice cream at its clubhouse across Lake Street.
