Port Washington’s bike path will be closed temporarily as We Energies works to bury power lines along the trail.

City Administrator Tony Brown said the utility told officials crew members would be burying some of the lines along the path to improve reliability.

While work is going on, the bike path will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for as long as one month, Brown said.

In recent years, the power lines along the path have been knocked out numerous times when branches and trees — often ash trees weakened or killed by the emerald ash borer — have fallen on the wires.

KS Energy will be doing the work for We Energies, Brown said, adding he does not know when the project will begin.
