Organizations donate lifesaving tool to community

The Fredonia Fire Department Association, Lions Club, Ozaukee Warrior Baseball/Softball Association and the Waubedonia Soccer Club recently pooled their resources to purchase a $2,000 automatic external defibrillator to be placed at the building across from the new Port Washington State Bank Splash Zone in Marie Kraus Park. In the case of a heart attack, people may call 911 to get a code to open the box to use the AED, and the fire department will respond. “Our hope is we never have to use it, but if we do it’s there,” Fredonia Fire Department Chaplain Ken Schneider, who’s an American Heart Association basic life support instructor and emergency medical technician, said. A sign will be placed nearby letting people know of the AED. Trustee Rick Abegglen thanked the organizations for the donation at the Dec. 4 Village Board meeting. “This just shows that you’re committed to being a bigger part of this community,” he said.
