Mark Emanuelson is the new treasurer and finance director for the City of Port Washington.

Emanuelson takes over the position previously held by Jennifer Clark, who resigned Sept. 30 after serving as treasurer for six years.

The Common Council offered Emanuelson the job following a closed session on Nov. 1.

He starts work with the city on Dec. 5.

Emanuelson is a Port Washington resident who has been the finance director and treasurer for the Village of Shorewood since 2013.

He was the assistant director of finance for the City of Mequon from 2008 to 2013 and the financial manager for St. Charles Youth and Family Services from 2003 to 2008.

Emanuelson was chosen from about 20 applicants for the job, Assistant City Administrator and Human Resources Director Emily Blakeslee said.

“We were very excited to get that many,” she said. “To be able to find such quality candidates quickly was exciting for us.”

Emanuelson rose to the top due to the amount of municipal experience he has, Blakeslee noted.

“It’s exciting to know we have such a deep talent pool here in Port Washington,” she said.

Emanuelson has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree, both from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is a Government Finance Officers Association certified public finance officer.

Emanuelson said he applied for the job to serve the community in which he lives.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to come into the local community,” he said. “Obviously, I have a little community knowledge. It’s a real nice opportunity, and I look forward to working with everyone there and being part of the future of Port Washington.”
