Several fire departments responded to an early morning corn-bin fire recently in the Town of Saukville.

Units from Saukville, Belgium, Fredonia, Grafton, Mequon, Newburg, Port Washington, Thiensville and Waubeka responded to the fire at 3:48 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, on Center Road.

JJ Lawn Service and Forever Green landscaping also provided a backhoe and skid loader to help remove corn from the bin, Saukville Fire Chief Gilly Schultz said.

Schultz said the call went out for mutual aid because of the need for manpower.

“It wasn’t a large fire that you could see for miles, but we needed manpower to cut holes in the bin and remove all the corn,” Schultz said.

No one was injured in the blaze, Schultz said.

Firefighters were on the scene for six hours.

Saukville Fire Department Auxiliary members provided food and water.
